Good for a kitchen sink pack

I had some fun with this pack over the course of two playthroughs- first alone, then again with a few friends. As far as kitchen sinks go, it is pretty good. Many of the mods are well integrated into each other. But its still a kitchen sink – no real goals until endgame, poor balancing, a bloated mod list, etc..

Good intro to tech-focused packs

I’m having a really great time with ATM10, especially since it was my first introduction to a lot of modern day tech mods. The quest book makes everything really accessible and easy to get into, and its been super fun to figure things out as I go.

Currently still working towards the atm star, I’ve taken a few breaks along the way.

Good kitchen sink.. but leaves a lot to be desired

As far as Kitchen sink modpacks goes, this is one of the better ones. At least, one that offers a bunch of different playstyles, goals, and branches to explore when it comes to tech, magic and automation; I had a great time with it, but is it good objectively ? No, not really.

The quest book is really nice, there’s A LOT to it and I get it could get confusing for some people but for me, it was well organized and fun to complete each mods.

The main issue with ATM10, like any kitchen sink modpacks, is being badly balanced. The early game is very fun as you have so many options when it comes to making a storage system, ways to travel, armors and equipments to get etc.. But of course, once you get a way to fly, good enough armor that 99% of mobs can’t do anything to you, and infinite ressources from basic automation; basically half of the content gets closed to you.

Why exploring all those tech mods that would result to the same end goal as the one I’ve already completed ?

Why learning all those spells and magic mods just to make gears and effect that are way too complex compared to other QoL mods that do the same thing in 5min ?

The best example is dimensions;

god the dimensions… basically all useless. You just can’t reach and explore any of them before reaching a point where the loot isn’t worth it, and all the exploration comes from flying from point A to point B to speedrun the questbook without experiencing anything it has to offer.

There’s also the issue of lack of linearity with progression, especially tech. Either you have a linear pack, or multiple branches you can take to reach the same point. But there’s just so many mods that 90% of your playtime is spent progressing on a single mod that does the exact same function as 3 others. Except one of them takes hours, and the other like 10min if you know what you’re doing.

Kitchen sink modpacks are just not made to be enjoyed on a concise, well balanced experience. Like its name suggest it is SUPPOSED to be messy, but it makes so many great mods left to be desired.

I would still recommend this pack, especially if someone wants a modpack that has a bunch to offer everywhere you go without being TOO messy or confusing. But for more experienced players in modded MC or players who are looking for a tailer-made, well crafted experience, look elsewhere and especially not at Kitchen sink modpacks.

It just isn't good.

The pack barely feels configured or cohesive. Recipes feel changed just for the sake of it rather than actual balancing, many equivalent items are wildly more or less expensive seemingly at random.

The quest layouts are incredibly disorganized and overstimulating. They’re difficult to navigate, and feel like they were designed for zoomed-out aesthetics rather than actually being used and navigated by players. Quest rewards are either completely useless, mildly useful (two or three of a random resource from the mod), or just another of the item you just made, with little rhyme or reason. The quests themselves are often annoyingly specific, such as the AE2 Wireless Terminal quest requiring you to make both a non-crafting wireless terminal and a crafting one, despite being able to create the better crafting terminal without first creating the basic terminal. Quests are also scattered across many chapters, with the same item often completing several nearly-identical quests, with the same nigh-pointless rewards that just fill up your inventory. The quests also teach you less about the mod than the actual guide books, which isn’t great for a large kitchen sink pack that will likely be many people’s first experience with some mods.

Things are generally poorly configured. FTB Chunks’ claims don’t allow doors by default, which should be one of the first things that a playtester would discover and change. It really just feels like a few hundred mods thrown together with a bunch of low-effort quests.

The performance is terrible, especially on low-end machines and medium-end servers.

Silent’s Gems has been given a smeltery-equivalent, which completely removes the unique aspects of the mod, and turns it into a TiCon ripoff. Many recipes feel like they’ve been changed just so that they can contribute to the ATM Star, rather than actual balancing reasons.

Overall, it feels like the pack wasn’t playtested at all, as most ATM packs do. Poor optimization, poor balancing, and very little configuration.
