DeceasedCraft – Urban Zombie Apocalypse Reviews
DeceasedCraft v5.5.5 - Better than actual zombie games?
#Summary
DeceasedCraft is by far the most well-designed zombie-apocalipse modpack that there is available on any platform by now. Most of the other zombie-apocalypse modpacks lacks some realistic mechanics like corporal temperature and limbs health, but DeceasedCraft has everything, from engineering systems, to food nutrition, body heat, complex health system and amazingly beautiful gun textures. In the next sections, i’ll detail why DeceasedCraft is the best zombie apocalypse modpack that exists and why it has already surpassed or at least matched the quality of some actual well-made zombie games like Project Zomboid(Steam).
#Gameplay
The game features complex and diverse gameplay styles and a world/mechanics overall that turns minecraft into practically another game. It removes the necessity to mine ores for grinding some items since you can find them in the naturally-generated abandoned cities(The cities you see on the trailer and the images of the modpack are ALL procedurally generated, no one built them). It features health system that separates your health between all your limbs and gives you disadvantages if you have some of your limbs damaged(slow movement speed if you break your legs for example) instead of the classical 20 slots minecraft health bar. You will experience the TRUE hardcore survival with the health system plus the nutrition system, wich forces you to have a balanced diet(grains, sugars, protein, fat, etc.) in order to have better health conditions so you can survive the hordes. It also features temperature and drinking systems, allowing you to risk your life if you drink unboiled water, die with hypothermia, or hyperthermia, die of dehydration or having your health reduced drastically due to a bad diet. In DC, the zombies are just one of the dozen ways to die and to turn your life miserable, just like it would be in a apocalypse. It also features engineering mods like Create and Immersive Engineering, if you want to automate your survival using only your engineering expertise and intelligence. It also features gun mods with real-life models such as Glocks, Scars, and even automated turrets if you want to defend your base. The modpack is built for multiplayer pvp servers as long is well-built for singleplayer survival sessions, wich i’ll explain further.
#Dedicated minecraft server
DC has a dedicated minecraft server hosted in CluckMC, wich is added into the server list as you download the modpack. The server has 20 – 40 players active through the day, as for 17/03/2025(the day i’m writing this review), is the most active server of a zombie-apocalypse modpack. I’ve tested other zombie-apocalypse MC servers and they can’t even reach 20 players a day. The server has PVP and PVE lobbies, as for in PVP they feature even more mechanics: Homes, Claims, Factions, Teleport system, Player Auctionhouses and even a bounty system wich stimulates PVP between players in a healthy-way, without losing your whole base to a no-life player like it would be in Day-Z styled games.
#Textures, art and music
DeceasedCraft has a unique mod made by the modpack devs wich adds BIZARRE zombie-like creatures(similar to the old 1.12.2 Scape and Run Parasites Mod), wich are way more powerful than the zombies, and even features special Zombies such as Spore Zombies that makes you get nausea, and even Juggernaut zombies(like the ones in State of Decay), along with many other that i didn’t had the (un)luck to encounter in the survival mode yet.
Altough, Deceasedcraft don’t have a personal soundtrack and still uses minecraft vanilla soundtrack, and vanilla textures for most blocks, it doesn’t make any less enjoyable.
DeceasedCraft uses the mod Timeless and Classics Guns for 1.18(wich will likely be updated to TACZ in the patch 6.0, wich is a even better version of TAC), wich is a mod that adds realistic real-world guns, with animations that has the same quality as Call-of-Duty modern games, and a slightly more “squared” 3D model, to match Minecraft aesthetics as well as making the game runs smoothly.
#Performance and Stability
DeceasedCraft has a good performance, but it should be necessary to add some more optimization mods for lower-end PCs. My PC has the following specs:
Ryzen 3 3200g
XFX RX 6600 8gb
16gb RAM
128gb M.2 SSD
It runs in my pc with no problems, but it may encounter some performance problems in other PCs.
I play in the dedicated server for this reason. If you play in a server, your game will only render the visuals and all the entities and world processing will be made by the dedicated server, making the game runs even smoother.
#Upcoming v6.0 GIGA update
The DC dev team is preparing a GIANT update for 6.0 wich will likely solve all the of the “problems” the pack already have. It will be ported for 1.20.1 and it will likely solve much of the performance issues(because newer forge versions are WAAAAY more optimized nowadays), allowing the devs to puch more effort in the Aesthetics and Art part of the game, since much of the processing load will likely be eased.
It shows that the modpack isn’t abandoned like most good modpacks, it is STILL being updated with much hard-work, and the devs are promising a update so big that will add new cities, new vehicles, new systems, new everything to the point it will look like a completely new game.
#Final considerations – Better than actual zombie games? YES!
DC already has just as many system as games like Project Zomboid or even DayZ, and i consider it to be even better than Project Zomboid. The carefully curated mod list alongside with the infinite possibilities of minecraft world makes it just as better as many zombie/shooter games out there. You don’t find HALF of this mechanics and gameplay features in Project Zomboid, even Project Zomboid being a highly acclaimed game.
If any of this doesn’t hype you to play the game for a long run, you should at least give it a little try, and surely the practical gameplay will convince you.

Let's Talk about DeceasedCraft
Well, its hard to put this all into a small review so everyone doesn’t get bored, but I do have to say that this is one of the most well-done mod-packs I have seen in a while. DeceasedCraft definitely gives you a realistic zombie gameplay that gets you so invested for hours on end. I have been playing this mod-pack for a while with my friend CC and it has honestly been a blast, it just doesn’t stop with how creative you can be. You survive on the world that was left behind and make a new one for the future.
Literally the best zombie apocalypse modpack available at the time of writing this review
First of all, I’ve played some modpacks and made some myself and I can definitely tell that this modpack is crafted with passion. It rewards exploration but it also necessary to upgrade your base due to the horde nights. Almost every item has its recipes tweaked to better match the modpack as a whole. It is on the more difficult side but it can be toned down.
But do keep in mind, due to the use of custom lost cities with entity blocks, the generation of lost cities it self, the amount of spawners on said cities, and minecraft’s own unoptimized code, it is a bit heavy on your PC
All in all really good modpack. Really looking forward to its next update.
Very immersive zombie apocalypse with a few problems
Overall the modpack is nice, very immersive, with awesome shaders making it kino experience. The pack is very rewarding for exploring which is risky, but gives the player access to otherwise hardly obtainable tech. Kudos to the creators for making Refined Storage easily obtainable in this way, while not giving up the whole tech, but just the necessities. There are some issues me and my friends encountered along the way:
– The difficulty was not linearly going up, but in rather big surprise leaps. You get used to some level of horde and suddenly you have boomer making pile of rubbish out of your base. And then next, and next…
– When raiding some more difficult structures with my friends, the enemy count jumped so high, that our FPS dropped from 144 to 20-30, adding yet another level of difficulty.
– Very unfortunate that Immersive Engineering and the car mod requires command block to be properly spawned, as on our server we encountered quite a lot of command blocks and hammers just lying around. (I didn’t see any command blocks in single player though)
– My last issue is with story, so it’s going to be spoiler. ||The endgame was just anticlimactic. You build you base, making it stronger, taking on stronger and stronger foes, developing a cure that could save the world, and it’s just an instant weakness with golden apple (that you don’t even have to craft as there’s plenty of it all around the world). And The Abyss is only good for obtaining of the brain, as all of the resources that are there are useless as you’ve already reached the end of the game. It’s such a shame, especially considering how cool the laboratory and military bases are.||
My (and my friends as we concluded this together) overall rating would be 3.5/5. It was nice experience, just enough in playtime to satisfy our Christmas tradition.
Closing note, I haven’t played other zombie modpacks, so I can’t really compare it to others, so take this info into account as well.
Playtime: 190 ingame days ~ 60h (3 people on the server, 190 is average)
