I installed this mod after hearing about it in a textConjure video with an empty mind only to realize that THIS MOD IS AMAZING.

Gameplay:

It really brings a new feel to minecraft, with every biome having something new to offer and every night being even more dangerous. This mod made me feel weak and scared again. Leaving the house you don’t know if you’ll return. Despite that, it’s really balanced. As I said earlier, leaving your comfort place is risky, but the risk is easy to avoid. Most of the mobs have unique mechanics making dealing with them not “attack, defend, repeat”. The player has to learn how each enemy works. By rushing to fight without a plan you won’t do anything, but with only a slight knowledge about your enemies fighting them becomes way more fun.

Aesthetics:

This mod just looks good and that’s all I can say. Where this mod shines the most is not in how mobs look, but in how they make you feel. Nights are way more climactic. As I wrote before, this mod made me feel like a little kid playing minecraft for the first time again.

Performance and stability:

I haven’t yet encountered any glitches or fps drops. Another huge thing is that both 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 versions are supported and have a similar amount of content.
